Big Bob-omb does have a point. But i think that Work Ethic is a suitable answer:
We are paid good money for this, we agreed to take the contract, how the hell do you expect people to trust us with job if we change our mind like that?

Also, i think it's been a while since we've seen the icon in people's speech bubble!

What the hell is up with that book? I don't know much about religious texts or wedding books or whatever that is, but I'm pretty sure "cows" and "breakfast" aren't something you'd normally find in anything related to wedding ceremonies.

Fridge Brillance, only it makes the entire scene better. Props to Ob on this one.

In my German class today someone started reciting the "Thine must count to three" thing. The teacher told him he wasn't doing it right and proceeded to say the lines himself, but with a British accent. It pretty much rocked.

Comic #82, Martello sums up the King unit as the commander of the bob-ombs. Without him, his underlings won't have any command structure and, possibly, shut down.
Therazan 29th Aug 2011, 10:56 PM edit delete reply
All teh Bob-mbs have the same collective AI, kinda. If the AI shut down, all bombs cease functions.

I don't want her to! I would love to see Martello flipped on her back and then spend a whole minute trying to get back up. Like how Koopas do in the games! That would be really funny, especially if she was teased for it later.

I just have to ask. Where is Mario in all of this? Doesn't he (literally) beat the stars out of Big Bob-omb? Twice?
Drake 30th Aug 2011, 4:56 PM edit delete reply
If I had to guess, he probably just got an invite for some cake and is on his way now. In other words, this seems to take place right before Mario64.
Futurevgd 30th Aug 2011, 9:44 PM edit delete reply
dont forget that bob omb battlefield is in a painting. Which could imply its describing an event in history, and this comic may be describing this event, although the painting does not show a pianta or a koopa with a hammer, perhaps because Bowser did not know of these things when he made the dimensions(if he made them). I would go farther but that would probably require building a timeline, because of martello's father's 'encounter'. And i dont feel like making a timeline for mario. It would be harder than zelda...
Morgenstern 30th Aug 2011, 11:31 PM edit delete reply
I think alot of people missed it due to it being the eye of the art argument storm, but 79 introduced the idea that these pink Bob-omb rebellions happen with some frequency. The Big Bob-omb that Mario fought in Mario 64 was but one example of god-knows-how-many King units mass produced to lead individual regiments.

As Ranter points out below, Mario has enough on his plate with protecting the Mushroom Kingdom (which is a long way away from this particular battlefield). He aided one of these rebellions (real or re-enacted is a debate for another time) in Mario 64, but he can't be around to help all of them. I will say the comic takes place after ... most of the Mario games, Mario 64 included.
TheMistBorn 31st Aug 2011, 9:39 AM edit delete reply
But not all?

Well since Sunshine has obviously already happened and so has SMRPG I assume you're talking about one of the galaxies. Judging by the Gearmo in Martello's workshop the first one may already have happened though...

My point to all that is I want to see McCoy kick some ass on a smallish planetoid :D
Therazan 31st Aug 2011, 11:07 PM edit delete reply
The 1st conclusion i get from Morgenstern's comment: Throwing Big Bob-omb won't work this time. He won't fall fr that trick again.
Mr. Vareel 3rd Sep 2011, 2:36 PM edit delete reply
Mr. Vareel
...Was that a pun?
Ranter 29th Aug 2011, 11:53 PM edit delete reply
He isn't freelance like the pirates. If the mushroom kingdom isn't being threatened, Mario is too powerful and high rank to be involved, and probably doesn't have any way of knowing about it anyway.
duskstalker 31st Aug 2011, 6:39 PM edit delete reply
Which begs the question, are Mario and Luigi an elite Toad military unit ("Plumbers" being a code name, in that case), or do they just volunteer.
Bonz0 31st Aug 2011, 7:45 PM edit delete reply
I don't think "plumbers" means the same thing in the Mushroom Kingdom as it does to us. I think it refers to people who fix things in general, not just pipes.

In traditional fantasy settings an "Adventurer" is someone who goes into dungeons and slays monsters. If you think of sewers and underground waterways as the "dungeons" of the Mushroom world, which they basically are, it seems obvious that people who routinely venture to such places to cleanse them of monsters might be referred to as "plumbers".

The game "Mario Bros." might be showing us what the Bros. did before Bowser started going after Peach. Or just what they do in between kidnappings.

In "Partners in Time" E. Gadd uses a giant version of F.L.U.D.D. to stop a volcano from erupting and killing a team of mountain climbers. A thwomp blames the Mario Bros. for dousing the volcano because they look like plumbers. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you think of "plumbers" as meaning "people who solve problems".
Grimlock13 1st Sep 2011, 10:27 PM edit delete reply
Lil Toad: Momy, I wanna be a plumber when I grow up.

Mom Toad: No kid of mine will be a plumber, it's way too dangerous. Why don't try something safer, like royal guard at the palace or wrestler.

I can see that...
Maltor Drey 15th Jun 2012, 4:58 AM edit delete reply
So the term 'plumber' referring to Mario is like 'the Doctor' for Doctor Who? He's not a real doctor, but he has that title because he fixes things.
Grimlock13 30th Aug 2011, 1:03 AM edit delete reply
I know I'm not the first one to say it, but the way King Bobomb speak, even in the middle of a fight, is so fun. He is so stoic, even when he sees his own defeat by the hand of a pissed off pianta. Completely hilarious.
CyberSkull 30th Aug 2011, 6:23 AM edit delete reply

So, I just realized that the king there reminds me of Burl Ives' snowman character from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Like maybe he melted and got rebuilt as a buff snowman cyborg thing. A snowborg, if you will.
