Early, even.

So after spending months--and I mean legitimately, months--trying to find a working copy of Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, I have finally gotten around to playing it. I'd ran through Super Paper Mario, which was alright--I don't know, it just didn't really grab me all that much, though I'll admit it was good.

Thousand Year Door, on the other hand... hoh boy. I can barely put the sucker down to do... well, anything. When I'm not playing it, it's... staring at me. Gazing into my soul. Taunting me.

"Haha, silly man forced to socially interact with the outside world. You could be playing Paper Mario."

That being said, I haven't gotten very far yet... mostly due to the aforementioned "having things to do" problem (which I have been trying to exterminate for years, to no avail). I've already determined, though, that Goombella needs to be in Mario Kart/Party/Tennis/Sports/DDR/Nascar Racer/whatever it is Nintendo decides to start pumping out on the Wii2.

I'm tempted to touch that whole issue, but I guess I should talk about the comic instead.

First off, mad props to Top Hunter for showing me this, apparently from Sakura Con 2011. It's the second time I've seen Go cosplay (well, the first was technically a Halloween costume... I'll let the man in question fess up to it if he chooses), and it still makes me giddy. It's an incredible feeling to know that your work is seeing this level of devotion.

This is not the last we have heard of these particular antagonists. I won't say tooo much~, but I do have plans for them somewhere down the line. Not as consistently reoccurring villains, as a few suggested--though something along those lines is rising up sooner than later.

I didn't realize until later that the 1 on Palma's shirt looks a bit like a 7, giving this shirt a very different context entirely. Whoops.

I loved thousand year door.... I was even 3 or 4 fights away from finishing it I think before life went screwey and I lost.... well... a lot.
Wasn't that that the one with Doopliss the copy-ghost? Heh... I remembered his name.

And hey.... those are most definitely not 1-ups.... 2-ups I'd believe.

Love the reference to Subcon! and the symbolic Birdo! And Palma less traumatized than Go even though it was HER who pulled the rope!

Take another look at it, T.

Now think. What character recently had an unpleasant encounter wit some rope?

Also, don't think of it as being one-eyed. I thought that too at first and then I realized I was looking at it in the wrong way.

Now, what you should be more curious about is who this "Blair" person is.

I think Blair is the girl that go mentions in his dream (tenth comic).
Lukkai 30th Apr 2011, 5:17 AM edit delete reply
Well Therazan: Palma was quite out of it the whole time. I don't think she really got just what she did there. Only knew that she was pulling a rope and that this was of help somehow. And even if she knew, I'd gather from how she's turned, that she never really took a look at what she did.
Go on the other side had a prime view loge seat on the whole thing.
Top Hunter 30th Apr 2011, 7:32 AM edit delete reply
Honestly the whole rope Birdo thing is an excellent piece of juxtapostion. Really captures the dream-like state in a more realistic and thought-provoking way. Well done.

Also let us know if you're going to be at any particular conventions down the road. There's some improvements I'm planning to make to the Go cosplay, and I'm hoping I can convince my friends to go as the whole Chainless crew.

Speaking of TYD, I think it's be sweet if the crew had a run in with the Pianta Syndicate. I can totally imagine McCoy being in debt to mobsters and not caring one whit. The ensuing battle could be epic!

Yeah, I've owned PMTYD since I've had a Game Cube. I've completed it multiple (4-6 I dunno exactly) times, but i've never reached that ellusive 100% completion. Right now, I'm closer than I've ever been, only needing like, 20 more star pieces. MUST. TRY. HARDER.

My favorite PMTYD character is a tie between Koops and Bobbery. I also like the little Yoshi due, whom I always name Fireball.

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was the first non-pokemon/on a console RPG I ever fully got into. I loved every minute of it... except maybe a few of the bosses, but even then I felt compelled to and enjoyed playing it. It was different perfectly, the humor always made me chuckle, the story was immersive, and it was always compelling to try and get even the slightest bit further. To me, the Thousand Year Door will remain a cherished memory and game.

@Whistle-tall No, it was pretty obvious, actually. It's not like there's any other moon that looks like that.

@Mr. Vareel I had a feeling you would say that. Lawl.

Whistle-tall 1st May 2011, 12:32 AM edit delete reply
@Link: Firstly, if you're talking about how the planet the Mushroom kingdom exists on has only one moon, speaking in "scientific" terms you are correct. However, "The Moon" has only been incarnated as that patchy one with the two pillars coming out of it in one game(two if you count the game boy advance remake), and for the case of one very specific boss fight: Raphael the Raven. Hmmm... raven, doesn't that seem familiar in some way? Now put 2 and 2 together and you'll see why I mentioned 4.
Secondly,, if it was obvious, why did you need to restate that it was obvious? Anything obvious is unsaid, so why bother calling it out? Please ponder that for a bit and give me some meaningful retort. I would prefer my social cognitive processes corrected only if they are integrally and understandingly dysfunctional. (As a pre-empt, No, I am not joking at any point in this third part)

That's a lot of words. Sorry to all innocent comment readers!
Mythus 1st May 2011, 3:26 AM edit delete reply
I disagree with you, there, Whistle-tall. I've seen a lot of things that were obvious to me, called out. The moon statement which you say anyone could recognize, was the only point in the comic that I wasn't aware of. (because the only Mario game I've ever played was the original)

What mushrooms do you use for PTSD?
Mr. Vareel 1st May 2011, 12:38 PM edit delete reply
Mr. Vareel
@Whistle-tall: (I know this isn't my argument, but I like to disrupt this kind of thing anyway.) It was obvious, but you stated "I bet (nigh-on) nobody else noticed that!” Stating that the moon was easily noticed is also stating that you've lost your bet. Unless the "nigh-on" made it a negative statement (you know what I mean), but I can't make any sense of that bit (the only definitions for "nigh" I can find suggest it is synonymous with "near" and "to wash").

@Cassiopia: I doubt there are. Maybe that's why Luigi is weak willed (compared to Mario). Uh...could PTSD have that effect? I don't know too much about. (For those of you who don't know, PTSD=Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I know that much.)

@Krimzon_Hammer: Point? What point? I made no point, I made a question (..."made a question" doesn't sound right). Λ question nobody has answered (which seems to happen a lot, like with my question on the tentacles).
Whistle-tall 1st May 2011, 12:49 PM edit delete reply
@Mythus: I don't believe I said that it was recognizable, in fact, the first part of my comment states the non-obviousness of the factual tidbit. What I was inferring was that it is the exact opposite of polite to yell to the public "Everyone knows this already" thusly making both the speaker and anyone of the speaker's audience look moronic. I don't believe in making people feel bad for no reason. Also, I aim no ill-will towards you, or anybody else for that matter.

PS Error correction for me(Yes, I make mistakes. *audience gasps*): "Secondly,," should have one comma, and the pre-empt was supposed to say "second part"

@Whistle-tall:.........What?
Whistle-tall 1st May 2011, 1:09 PM edit delete reply
I just read Mr. Vareel's comment. Sorry, I should have said that it was a clever reference to have the Raphael the Raven boss moon in reference to McCoy, I didn't mean that it was an easily noticed moon. "Nigh-on" is another way to say nearly, another semantic error on my part. Also, who keeps interpreting that I'M saying it's obvious! If anything, I've unintentionally stated that it was not obvious.
Lastly, all I was doing was praising Morgensern's comic in my first comment. Nothing else. I intended no statement about anything else to any degree. I am sorry to all who were harmed in the wake.
PS Also sorry to all those who experienced brain damage from reading my long as heck comments!

Dry Guy 2nd May 2011, 2:07 PM edit delete reply
On all the references, I've noted:
- Subcon, the land of dreams, from Super Mario Bros. 2. Appropriate since Go is dreaming.
-Blair is definitely someone from Go's past, but I'll leave the gender issue alone.
-The cherries are just more Subcon imagery. I recall that getting a certain amount of the cherries will give you a star. Possibly something from Go's past, or just dreaming in general.
-The subspace door, another Subcon image. Entering them can give mushrooms and coins for extra life and points, respectively. Same as the cherries.
-The moon of Yoshi's Island, where Raphael the Raven is fought. Go could be thinking about McCoy or another Raven.
-The tentacles, which I'm guessing are Thrive, so Go may be afraid that Thrive isn't completely dead, or he's just reflecting on the experience.
-Rope Birdo. Go's having a nightmare about what he saw when Birdo was hanged.

That's my take, at least.

Unless Palma has a more masculine voice than I thought... and I'm pretty sure Blair come up earlier, but I'm too lazy to check. I do vaguely recall a "her" or "she" being mentioned by Go (in his head) at some point, who may be this Blair person.
