Go has never sat through a whole horror movie, and is thus oblivious to how incredibly silly this is.

Everyone else is totally aware, they're just THAT confident. I mean, it's hard to be afraid of anything when you've got a cannon strapped to your back.

Or when you're McCoy.

After getting alot of advice on the darkness situation (and thank you very much for that, everyone) I've gotta say I kinda like the lighting on this one the best of the last three comics. I subdued the shading a bit (since there are light sources, they're just faint and far between), gave it a very subtle blue-ish tint instead of just totally darkening it, and I think it came out looking pretty decent. It's going to take a little more tweaking and working with levels to get it right where I want it, but it's definitely been a learning experience.

And yeah, the page is still sketchy. I'm going to hold off a little longer before trying the inking thing--I started to give it a go, but my line work is honestly pretty awful. It was suggested quite a few times that the sketchy look may be preferable anyway--apparently, some people were drawn to the different look of it, which is pretty awesome. I really appreciate the support from everybody, and I promise I'll at least give the ink thing a serious TRY at some point just so everyone can see what it looks like. Right now, though, I think I'm more worried about telling the story than perfecting the art, especially since things are about to get SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Speaking of serious business, holy crap. I spent some time (and money) on advertising, and seriously underestimated what sort of results I'd get. There's been ALOT more people reading and commenting lately, so I'd like to welcome all the newcomers. Sorry I haven't been responding to comments and such as much recently--it's been sort of hectic, and I got sort of sucked in to the whole advertising bit. Ad auctions are terribly addictive.

Really, I dunno what else to say. I'm pretty giggly over how many new people are reading the comic.

This comic rocks! I think you're going to have lots of success!

Dude! the sketchy look ROCKS! Keep it! plus then you can be lazy and not have to ink every page.

The sketchiness adds to the mood, I wouldn't do anything like straight lined inking with the atmosphere your comic has presented. But if you change the style, be subtle about it and try to fit it to the feeling of the dark whimsey you set up.

Yeah, the shading is definitely better, and if you do decide to go for the line work, maybe put up seperate practice works for people to comment on, and have it as a "work in progress" to test it, instead of changing the comic and possibly deciding it doesn't work. I'm sure alot of people would want to see a few samples of what other possibilities would look like.
Trigun1 10th Aug 2010, 6:50 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, Jason makes a ton of sense, samples would be nice. Maybe just what each character would look like, instead of full comics.

I also love the conversation between the Captain and Palma.

I always make sense.

I've always wanted to try making a comic too, but I don't know if I have the talent, and right now I'd be plum out of ideas.

Another thing I like about the comic is the icons to differentiate character's speech bubbles and thought boxes

I like the sketchy look of the comic personally.

I clicked the ad fully expecting to hate this comic, but it's pretty readable so far. Keep it up!

Oh, wow. I can honestly say I didn't expect this to hit 4chan so soon.

I can also honestly say I'm a little scared. And relieved. But still scared.

Phew. Glad you guys like it, though.

I don't really know much about 4Chan. I only visited once, they have all these rules about saying the name "4Chan" on other sites along with shadow power control over memes...

It's a little like the Men in Black of the internet. You don't know who they are or where they come from-- all you have to go on is a popular media theory which is most likely wrong, the observation that they appear wherever there are alien sightings, and the subtle intuitive feeling that they secretly control EVERYTHING. (Even more the the leader of a country...?)

I half expected Martello and Palma to be talking about the Indogo-gos from Majora's Mask.

I am hopelessly addicted to the Legend of Zelda.
