Red Shell, Blue shell
Pain-such-as-you-never-knew shell

(Wish I could remember where that was from...)

He's not gonna be able to choose what he gets, I bet you. He's either gonna get something average, like maybe a red shell, or a dud, like a banana or fake box
Torchlight 17th Jun 2013, 6:35 PM edit delete reply
Actually, you'd think he would be able to pick... If he's checking item diagnostics, wouldn't it be useful to be able to select which items to check over?
the_unchosen_one 17th Jun 2013, 9:02 PM edit delete reply
I think the item diagnostics would be more of a simulator, or a bug check program. I think he's going to activate the item boxes on the track, and grab one
blaZe9v 17th Jun 2013, 12:19 PM edit delete reply
This fight's gonna get really fun really fast, I can tell.

Come on star!
Tobias7 18th Jun 2013, 8:53 AM edit delete reply
Somehow I don't think it will go that smoothly...unless Shrapnel is the one to get the star.
Amaare 18th Jun 2013, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
I know, it would all be a bit too easy, but I can dream can't I?

Unless the effects of said star on an inexperienced magic user like Go are not as simple as we expect.
It's not exactly a big leap, considering how "well" his previous transformations have gone.

I think in this situation, it'd be more effective than a Boo.
Star1412 19th Jun 2013, 10:25 AM edit delete reply
hmm. I wonder what Mario Kart items we actually have here. If Go has the special items from Double Dash to work with, things could get really weird.
BlueMario 21st Jun 2013, 7:01 PM edit delete reply
No, those clearly art special items that attune to the user's own vim to become something new; i.o.w. Go can't get a Chain Chomp or a Bowser Shell, but he could get his own, Go-themed special
BlueMario 21st Jun 2013, 7:04 PM edit delete reply
Although, Scoot makes a good point in the thread beneath this: he's a toad so his specialty item might be a Golden Shroom
Scootaloo 18th Jun 2013, 3:07 PM edit delete reply
He's obviously going to get the Golden Mushroom. After all, that's his specialty item! `^`
Torchlight 18th Jun 2013, 5:39 PM edit delete reply
And since he's not drunk this time, it might actually work properly. XD
Scootaloo 18th Jun 2013, 7:46 PM edit delete reply
Hopefully! This is my personal hope and dream, and if Morgie doesn't go through with it, I will cry. I mean seriously, I always chose Toadette just for that Golden Mushroom.
Swagner 19th Jun 2013, 12:03 AM edit delete reply
What effect would that have on a person (a gold mushroom compared to a regular one), I wonder? Super-speed? Or a re-usable mushroom, granting more and more muscles with each bite?
Scootaloo 19th Jun 2013, 2:00 PM edit delete reply
I could see a Golden Mushroom being a better Super Mushroom, making you way faster while maintaining higher strength, but using it for too long a period of time would leave you with a cool down time, basically- you'd be completely vulnerable once it ran out. That's just my take on the idea. D:
Kerkerkerkerkero 19th Jun 2013, 11:54 AM edit delete reply
Why are people not talking about how there is a town called Frappe?
Scootaloo 19th Jun 2013, 1:58 PM edit delete reply
Well, it was the name of a course in Mario Kart 64. :x
Scootaloo 19th Jun 2013, 8:44 PM edit delete reply
Go with Spiked Blue Shell. I'd much rather have that.
Tobias7 20th Jun 2013, 9:22 AM edit delete reply
Yes! Can you imagine everyone running from a blue shell? I wonder how it would determine who is in first place though since they aren't racing?
Maltor Drey 20th Jun 2013, 10:09 PM edit delete reply
Probably the same effect it would have in a game of Super Mario Bros.? It's been a while since I played it, but doesn't it clear the screen of enemies?

Although, Shrapnel is a boss...
Swagner 21st Jun 2013, 9:45 AM edit delete reply
I don't remember anything like that, but in NSMB on the DS you could wear one and slide around in it...
Torchlight 22nd Jun 2013, 9:53 AM edit delete reply
I'm fairly sure what you're thinking of is the POW Block. Though in most of the games it pops up in it just flips most enemies upside down for a few.
Maltor Drey 23rd Jun 2013, 6:31 AM edit delete reply
I think was getting mixed up with power ups in other games...

Dear Mr. Morgenstern

Have you heard of this patreon place?
I thought you might wish to examine its wherewithal.

-Your good Rick Bo
Tobias7 23rd Jun 2013, 10:41 AM edit delete reply
I was really confused until I saw the word patreon is actually a link. I was thinking it was some adjective I had never heard of :P
RICK BO 23rd Jun 2013, 8:57 PM edit delete reply
I like hiding links about as much as I like hidden text

It'll be another mildly late comic!

I've spent most of the weekend getting mad at file compatibilities and nearly wiping out my computer by trying to update it
BlueMario 24th Jun 2013, 12:27 AM edit delete reply
What's not compatible with what?
I personally don't like the fact that GIFs can't be opened as a layered document in a program that has layers
Morgenstern 24th Jun 2013, 2:43 AM edit delete reply
Internet Explorer 9 and 10 don't support .ogg files, even though every other browser on the face of the planet does. In a perfect world nobody would use Internet Explorer anyway, but some folks still do and those people are wrecking my whole thing going on

There's a much longer story involved here, but basically a fiasco is afoot and between this and E3 I've developed a very unfortunate attitude towards Microsoft
Swagner 24th Jun 2013, 10:45 AM edit delete reply
Eh, my attitude towards Microsoft was basically shot when Windows 8 came out. At this point I'm just hoping that windows 7 continues receiving support until steam has fully migrated to linux. I hope you get everything figured out!
Star1412 24th Jun 2013, 11:32 AM edit delete reply
I think they probably put this guy in charge of Microsoft's marketing recently.
Tobias7 24th Jun 2013, 1:24 AM edit delete reply
As a programmer I feel your pain. By the way if you ever need any kind of simple software feel free to ask and I'll see if I can build something for you.
Tobias7 26th Jun 2013, 7:51 AM edit delete reply
Are you still having trouble? Do you really need to use ogg files? I remember finding a free converter to wma files.

Once while playing Mario Kart, I forgot what the Green Shell did, so I just threw it. A few seconds later, it hit me
Scootaloo 29th Jun 2013, 8:37 AM edit delete reply
I find that throwing a green shell usually ends up with it hitting yourself.
5007 29th Jun 2013, 3:40 PM edit delete reply
I was an expert at green shells though. SNES and N64 greenies were the best as they bounced around indefinitely.

I could fire a shell, have it bounce three times and hit the person in first place. Unfortunately, they now break after n number of bounces.
blaZe9v 29th Jun 2013, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
Green shells for the win
the_unchosen_one 29th Jun 2013, 5:35 PM edit delete reply
Playing the N64 battles with my dad, I got to the point where I could hit him with a red shell even when he had triple greens, or shoot one around a corner

I had to reread it a few times, but then I got it.
Well played.
Morgenstern 29th Jun 2013, 11:49 PM edit delete reply
So, I might have made a game. It's on the short and easy side, but as someone with massive attention span problems I'm really just proud that I finished something.
Bonz0 30th Jun 2013, 12:52 AM edit delete reply
That was pretty fun.
Goldenboy 30th Jun 2013, 12:55 AM edit delete reply
Awesome game! I really think you have a good grasp of game design! Kudos on knowing how to teach people to play your game without having a giant stupid tutorial yell at you about everything new you encounter! I look forward to the first "expansion". :)
RICK BO 30th Jun 2013, 7:02 AM edit delete reply
I see more than two of us have seen Megaman X Sequelitis.

Also, didn't figure out the rapid fire block on it's introductory level(6?), Did the stupid thing manually.

This take me back to the good ol days of flash games. Particularily liked the attention to details; eye's moving up and down with cursor
Tobias7 30th Jun 2013, 7:49 AM edit delete reply
Honestly I didn't figure out the rapid fire until the final boss. I did use it, just somehow very coincidentally without understanding it.
Tobias7 30th Jun 2013, 6:34 AM edit delete reply
Wow that was amazing!!! Like Goldenboy said, that was fun trying to figure out the different concepts. What did you use to create it?
Shogun Gundam04 30th Jun 2013, 10:58 AM edit delete reply
I can't wait to see what powerup/ track manipulation Go is going to do!
Kool game, I enjoyed its "complex simplicity" (easy to learn harder to master) cant wait for a sequel or expansion if you are ever able to do it. an in game mute button is the only thing i can think of that would be a nice touch (someone also posted that on kongregate too)
shogungundam04 30th Jun 2013, 11:00 AM edit delete reply
Need to either double check my unlogged in posts or remember to login, but a wasd control scheme would be a good addition as well
Tobias7 30th Jun 2013, 11:07 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, I had some trouble with the final boss because I'm on a laptop, I ended up switching hands between arrow keys and firing. If there was an aswd setup then I could use my left hand on those keys and my right hand on the trackpad.
Morgenstern 1st Jul 2013, 12:30 AM edit delete reply
After accidentally breaking it twice, I added a WASD control scheme, AND you can now mute the game by pushing M. Thanks for all the advice!

Also, new comic should be up tomorrow unless it isn't

EDIT: Okay, comic will be up Tuesday night-ish. Nearly done, just got sidetracked with some stuff.
Tobias7 1st Jul 2013, 12:35 AM edit delete reply
Wow that's awesome :) Thanks for adding the changes, I was playing with a WASD scheme without realizing it for a moment. The only thing is W doesn't work in the water correctly for some reason :P

Goldenboy 1st Jul 2013, 1:36 AM edit delete reply
Oh, like you need a con as an excuse to have a MuGo cosplay & fan meet and greet. No really though, please make events at both cons and post pretty pretty pictures...please?
Scootaloo 1st Jul 2013, 9:59 AM edit delete reply
If I had the chance, I think I could pull off Go pretty well. Of course, lack of usable funds/transportation prevents me from going to any con at all, plus my Link cosplay needs some more love.
Torchlight 2nd Jul 2013, 5:02 AM edit delete reply
Honestly, if I could get to any con ANYWHERE, I'd happily do so. Regrettably, I'm on a tiny little island off the coast of Australia so... No cons worth a damn down here. (Which sucks, since I really want to see if I can pull off a decent Shrapnel. I've certainly got the gut for it. XD)
Amaare 2nd Jul 2013, 5:15 AM edit delete reply
I have the arrogance to suggest that I could carry off McCoy, but I live in the UK, so cons are more or less out for me as well.
