A little more of the goomba that Jack was talking to during his first appearance.

Animal Crossing! New Leaf. Everybody should get some. It's pretty good.

It looks like that communication device can also transmit spells. Nice callback with the spinning shapes, BTW.

Now shit goes DOWN!!!

And up.
And in every other direction.

To summarize:
Hyatt is a boss, and Fabes just got promoted.
...Hey, is that magikoopa brand magic?
What with the shapes and the colors...
BlueMario 21st Jun 2013, 7:16 PM edit delete reply
Naw, that's just MAGIC magic, not Vim-ish magic
Magicman9v 11th Jun 2013, 6:22 PM edit delete reply
Mmmmmmm BLT's
the_unchosen_one 11th Jun 2013, 7:13 PM edit delete reply
Now, who says that pendant is a TRANSMITTER, per se? What if it's containment device, like the Goomba is INSIDE it?
Or maybe a key of sorts? I remember one of the old theories behind Fabes was that he was from the Minus World, because of his belt buckle
Bonz0 11th Jun 2013, 10:15 PM edit delete reply
Nah, he's from the Guilty Gear world.
Morgenstern 11th Jun 2013, 11:41 PM edit delete reply
I had to try really hard not to name Hyatt's boost spell the Goomba Install, just to further the Guilty Gear reference
Bonz0 12th Jun 2013, 1:31 AM edit delete reply
You probably could have gotten away with it too.

Huh...that spell actually makes Fabes look a bit like Robo-Ky. Which means Hyatt is kinda like Crow. That is, if he's in some secret base and not, like, inside the amulet or whatever.
Bonz0 11th Jun 2013, 9:54 PM edit delete reply
I'm hesitant to pick up the new Animal Crossing. City Folk left me a bit disappointed. It was basically Wild World combined with Gamecube version. The central feature was a new area where a bunch of old wandering characters were given permanent residence. Not really worth the bus ride. They should have just kept the island from the Gamecube version.
the_unchosen_one 11th Jun 2013, 11:18 PM edit delete reply
I'm rather enjoying it, myself. I was in the same boat as you. I had only rented CF, and didn't like it. NL is really fun so far, and the mayor mechanic adds a bit of something when you want to upgrade something besides your house. The town upgrades take quite a bit of money as well, but it's a pretty cool idea
the_unchosen_one 11th Jun 2013, 11:20 PM edit delete reply
Didn't think of this until after I posted the first one
In fact, hobojoe and I enjoyed a few of the minigames on the current iteration of the island together
Hobojoe007 13th Jun 2013, 9:17 AM edit delete reply
Yeah New Leaf has WAY more new features than City Folk did. So far its looking better than any of the others. Also I found out why Tortimer never showed up in my town, he shows up after first house upgrade.

Shogun Gundam04 11th Jun 2013, 10:11 PM edit delete reply
wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Question is all magic essentially the same? i.e. this goomba magic and Go's old art? or are they separate entirely?
Also can't believe this went unnoticed but this wonderful comic is 3 years old 9 days ago (if someone has already noticed sorry I missed it)
Bonz0 11th Jun 2013, 10:15 PM edit delete reply
Those shapes seems to imply it's magikoopa magic, which I think is different from the type of magic Go does.
the_unchosen_one 11th Jun 2013, 11:38 PM edit delete reply
But would a Goomba be able to use Magikoopa magic? They way they've been portrayed, they're a race more based in science, it seems
Shogun gundam04 11th Jun 2013, 10:15 PM edit delete reply
I tend not to comment just lurk, been here since beginning of Twister's Borough arc btw
Morgenstern 11th Jun 2013, 11:44 PM edit delete reply
Thrive actually suggested that Go's Old Art might not be magical at all.

Though, Go's magic-magic (of which he only claims to know basic stuff, i.e. cleaning clothes and maintaining the ship's engine) isn't all that far off from what Magikoopas do. They're just in an entirely different tier in terms of knowledge and ability. It's not that the magic is inherently racial, moreso that Bowser's elite sorcerers keep the information well contained within their ranks--they don't exactly sell books on how to do what a Magikoopa does.

Flow of knowledge, propaganda and misinformation are sort of the Koopa government's specialty, at least the way I imagine it.

Tobias7 12th Jun 2013, 1:29 AM edit delete reply
Martello!!! And Magikoopa magic :) I totally love how you've drawn it, that last panel is so perfect. And is Hyatt in the crystal or communicating through the crystal?
Morgenstern 12th Jun 2013, 2:06 AM edit delete reply
Also, has everybody been keeping up with Nintendo's E3 announcements?

This might be my favorite E3 in years.
Futurevgd 12th Jun 2013, 2:24 AM edit delete reply
Sure, Megaman I get.
The villager, fine.
But the trainer?!
Morgenstern 12th Jun 2013, 2:41 AM edit delete reply
I laughed at first, but then after seeing gameplay of her

well, I laughed again

and then called dibs on her, totally going to main Wii Fit Trainer

In all seriousness if I get Wii Fit Trainer but not Little Mac as a legit playable character I am going to write some grumpy E-mails
Torchlight 12th Jun 2013, 2:42 AM edit delete reply
Let's be honest here; she's probably the most ludicrously fit character on the roster, next to Samus or Link. I'd certainly bet on the well-toned athlete in a brawl against a fat plumber. >_>

Dammit Morg, you glorious git! I just giggle-snorted bourbon and coke up the back of my nose!

On another note, anyone notice that DK can't rest his foot on his opposite leg? (Kirby has the excuse of not really having legs)
the_unchosen_one 12th Jun 2013, 2:49 AM edit delete reply
I am so FRIKKIN excited for Megaman, man! You duneven KNOW! Way better than SANIC and his "Lookit me guys! I can spin dash! Guys! GUYS! Are you looking?! I can spin dash! Guuuuys...! You're not looking...!"
Bonz0 12th Jun 2013, 10:24 AM edit delete reply
The trainer's video made me laugh louder than I have in months. I'm so glad I was alone at the time.

It was even funnier if you've actually played Wii Fit.

Indeed. But through all of thism I can only say I REALLY hope Lloyd Irving joins the fray.
Evdog 14th Jun 2013, 11:23 PM edit delete reply
I've been waiting and hoping for Geno.
Morgenstern 15th Jun 2013, 1:01 AM edit delete reply
There's a butt ton of characters I want, though only a handful of my wish list is plausible. I think the only characters I'm expecting at this point are

1.) Little Mac. I actually expected him in Brawl, but only got him as an Assist Trophy. I'm predicting fully playable this time.

2.) One or more Namco characters. Pacman or Klonoa, specifically. Normally Namco would stuff Heihachi into any and all crossovers, but there's been some mention already of not wanting to "SmashBrothersify" a "conventional" fighting game character.

3.) I'm still holding out for a K. Rool, Ridley or Captain Syrup. I would settle for an appropriately resized Medusa from Kid Icarus, though.
the_unchosen_one 12th Jun 2013, 2:46 AM edit delete reply
Question. Is Hyatt one syllable or two?
I just can't decide... Morg, care to weigh in?
Morgenstern 12th Jun 2013, 2:52 AM edit delete reply
I've been pronouncing it in two syllables, like "HIGH-uhtt," though if I say it fast enough it sounds like Link yelling. HYAHT! HYUHT HA
blaZe9v 12th Jun 2013, 2:13 PM edit delete reply
My friend actually thought that was what he was saying until I pointed out it was a name.
Tobias7 13th Jun 2013, 7:22 PM edit delete reply
When you reread it with that perspective it makes Fabes look like he has weird hiccups.
Futurevgd 12th Jun 2013, 2:47 AM edit delete reply
I think Mario Kart 8 is a thing too...
blaZe9v 12th Jun 2013, 2:13 PM edit delete reply
Both of which look kickass in my opinion. Anyone else not disagree about 3D world? I've seen a lot of haters.
Morgenstern 13th Jun 2013, 1:10 AM edit delete reply
How could somebody hate on 3D World? It's all of the New Super Mario Bros I originally wanted, also cat suits
Swagner 13th Jun 2013, 10:22 AM edit delete reply
Indeed. All else aside, it's a multi-player 3D Mario platformer. This should have happened sooner.
blaZe9v 13th Jun 2013, 2:46 PM edit delete reply
Agreed wholeheartedly and then some, the game has WAY too many haters.
Bonz0 13th Jun 2013, 7:43 PM edit delete reply
I can understand the hate towards 3D World. Or at least the disappointment. Some people prefer the open ended, exploration-based, sandbox style of 3D Mario game. Like SM64 and Sunshine.

Ever since Super Mario Galaxy they've been moving further and further from that type of gameplay. SMG had many levels that ranged from small to medium, as opposed to a handful of large levels like Sunshine. SMG2 took many cues from the 2D games. SM3DL abandoned all of the elements we had come to expect from 3D Mario. It played by 2D Mario rules.

Which isn't a bad thing. I thought SM3DL was a cool experience. Like a re-envisioning of what the first 3D Mario game could have looked like.

I wasn't, however, expecting a game just like it to be released so soon. We get another linear type of Mario game right after we get NSMB2, NSMBU and NSLU.

Sure, I'll buy it and enjoy it. But it's still a bit disappointing for those who have been waiting so long for another game like Sunshine.

It's not that people are hating Super Mario 3D World. They hate the absence of the Mario game they wanted, whatever it may be. They hate the revelation that this is the Mario game that Nintendo has been hyping. It doesn't add up the one they've been hyping up in their heads.

Of course, there's a strong possibility that Nintendo is already working on a more classic 3D Mario. At least I hope so.
Swagner 14th Jun 2013, 2:24 PM edit delete reply
Good point. I DO miss Peach's castle... They could just ANNOUNCE a new open-ended game so that people don't think that this is how ALL future Mario games are.
fuzzy3158 16th Jun 2013, 6:19 AM edit delete reply
I just want to say that I wholeheartedly agree with missing games like Mario Sunshine. I was just playing it a week ago, and I noticed how MUCH more I was enjoying it than I did with, for instance, the second time playing galaxy with Luigi. I just kinda did that for the sake of completion. I did enjoy it, but it doesn't really compare with Mario Sunshine, let alone mario 64. I mean come on, just jumping into a painting, exploring a world and just grabbing any star you come across? It hasn't ever really gotten any better than that.

And it actually took me this long to realise. I thank you fine people for having this conversation.
blaZe9v 16th Jun 2013, 2:24 PM edit delete reply
Couldn't disagree that it's a bit unfortunate by the standards of a lot of fans, but at least we here seem to at least accept that the game's not all bad, unlike 90% of the people on youtube lol

Amaare 12th Jun 2013, 7:01 AM edit delete reply
Let's see if I can get another one.

From the look of Fabes and the way they were talking, I'm guessing that was a fusion spell.
Torchlight 12th Jun 2013, 8:36 AM edit delete reply
Huh, that'd be a first... A Fusion spell without requiring matching earrings or a funny dance. o.o
Tobias7 12th Jun 2013, 11:16 AM edit delete reply
I'm going for strength spell here. He doesn't seem possessed...well not exactly.
the_unchosen_one 12th Jun 2013, 12:33 PM edit delete reply
I it were fusion, I would think they would lose their individual consciences, right? So Hyatt wouldn't be able to remind Fabes of only one shot, and Gabes wouldn't be able to thank her (its the lips. Come on). UNLESS Hyatt was able to sacrifice someone else as a fusion partner for Fabes
Amaare 16th Jun 2013, 11:36 AM edit delete reply
You have a point, I just think it looks a bit to...much for a simple strength spell. Maybe it's just me.
