YAY!!!! NEW MUSHROOM GO!!!! We love you Morg!!!!
Tobias7 6th May 2013, 9:13 AM edit delete reply
Also, how in the world was the update this fast? Did you draw it yourself a while back in case things fell apart or did you really put this together within a few hours?
Morgenstern 6th May 2013, 9:23 AM edit delete reply
The artist actually quit like a week ago

I gave her some time in case she changed her mind, but... here we are
Tobias7 6th May 2013, 9:27 AM edit delete reply
Well, this comic's great, I've read it several times already :)
BlueMario 6th May 2013, 9:52 AM edit delete reply
D'aw the artist quit already? I understand, what with her having that Pirate thing to work on, but that's still too bad.

Really appreciate you drawing us a comic! And so QUICK too! Especially considering why we went on hiatus indefinite to begin with.

Yay for new comic :D

I know! The other artist was decent, but Morg really has an amazing style :)

Morg's style is what made Mushroom Go what it is. Gritty, dark, dirty Mario

I hope you feel like carrying on with this yourself again, it brings much happiness.

Yes! I saw this on my RSS feed and almost screamed for a second from surprise and excitement! And it's your amazing work too! Thanks for the page, but it's too bad the artist quit.

Say... are you off hiatus, or are you just feeling extra generous?
Morgenstern 7th May 2013, 12:43 AM edit delete reply
I'm officially back to drawing them again, at least for a while. At this point I think the only artist I can trust to not just suddenly skip town is Cammi, and her talents are reserved for special stuff anyway.

I'm aiming for Sunday or Monday-ish updates, though the usual lack of guarantees is still in full application.
BlueMario 7th May 2013, 10:03 AM edit delete reply
Munday updates?
Amaare 11th May 2013, 10:56 AM edit delete reply

And if I were able to take over, you guys would get this horrid schedule where I'd work on MuGo one week and Immortal Fool the next week and it keeps alternating like that.

You wouldn't want that.
Evdog 6th May 2013, 10:38 PM edit delete reply
I've started cataloging every MuGo comic into a folder. Has anyone make any derivative fan-works?

Canadan_Ninja 7th May 2013, 10:02 AM edit delete reply
Mushroom Go update Yay~

I'm sorry to hear your Comic artist quit Morg, I know how that feels I tried to make a comic for years and I got the flakiest of artists pomising to help then bailing on me. at least you have the art skill to carry on when you want to. :3
Anon 7th May 2013, 1:45 PM edit delete reply
Not the artist, but the agreement was she would do this comic for free in her spare time between juggling her own comic, two songs, moving, and paid work, yeah? Because it's not really fair to compare that to "flaky" artists (who probably had good reasons to drop out, too, but I don't know their side of the story.)
Cammiluna 7th May 2013, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
She is also a wife with children, which comes with a lot of obligation on its own.

I'm sad to see the partnership end, but she was nothing less of amazing and wish the best for her.
Tobias7 9th May 2013, 1:09 PM edit delete reply
Agreed :)
Canadan_Ninja 8th May 2013, 6:45 AM edit delete reply
I'm sorry I didn't mean to infer anything of the sort, I'm sure she had a pefectly good reason to drop out, I'm just saying I understand the situation Morg is in right now being Artist-less.
BusinessHulk 7th May 2013, 1:43 PM edit delete reply
From what I understand, the artist wasn't being paid by Morgenstern, and had agreed to draw this comic as a favor. She really didn't have much of an obligation to stay, especially when she had her own comic and paid commissions to worry about.

All legitimate reasons, so don't start hating on her.
Tobias7 7th May 2013, 4:06 PM edit delete reply
Honestly we have her to thank for the return of Mushroom Go. So while we might be a little irritated, I think you guys are right that we shouldn't hate on her, she seemed to at least try, unlike a previous artist that shall go unnamed...
fuzzy3158 8th May 2013, 2:07 AM edit delete reply
holy shit a new comic. Did not see that one coming, or the old art returning for that matter. I'm happy :D
I do think it's a shame that tempting transfinity died a premature death...
thegreatandmightyone 8th May 2013, 10:26 AM edit delete reply
Woah, I come back to the comment section to find a whole bunch of artist hate. WHY?!?! thedandmom was fabulous and though it's sad she's gone there is no reason to be irritated or anything of that nature.

Nice to see an update after so long. Looking forwards to the next one, but I can be patient (I just usually choose not to).
Spikeskug 9th May 2013, 12:48 AM edit delete reply
While the other art looked really sharp, there's just a certain charm about your own work Morg.
BlueMario 9th May 2013, 9:43 AM edit delete reply
While other art is smooth, clean, and sharp, Morg's is rough and tumble and imperfect, just like MuGo and its Characters
Tobias7 9th May 2013, 12:40 PM edit delete reply
This is what I've always said about this comic, professional artists can't do the art as well as Morg, because Morg's personal style fits Mushroom Go. I thought the last artist fit it pretty well, but Morg's art fits it spot on.
Bonz0 9th May 2013, 12:16 PM edit delete reply
I've always thought Morg's art went well with the Mario setting. Gritty enough that you can tell this is a slighty dark comic yet still retaining the kind of charm you might find in a Paper Mario game.
Sheets 10th May 2013, 12:20 AM edit delete reply
Morg, you totally rock. And McCoy is freaking hilarious. Who knew lighters made good weapons?
fuzzy3158 10th May 2013, 4:01 AM edit delete reply
We should have more random comic pages drawn by random artists. If I look back, all the style changes are pretty funny to me :) It's like the story is being told by different people :)
Star1412 10th May 2013, 5:30 AM edit delete reply
Thats an interesting idea.
What if we also had every flashback drawn by a diffent person, maybe depending on the person who's telling the story? I know obfuscobble's art style didn't really work for this comic, but I thought it worked well for Mc Coy's story about finding Guy.
BlueMario 10th May 2013, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
I mentioned something like that a while back. Unfortunately, Morg can't even contact Ob any more, let alone set up something like that.
fuzzy3158 10th May 2013, 10:38 AM edit delete reply
Guest page by Cammiluna is probably the best thing we may get at this time. (OMG wouldn't that be awesome?)
Swagner 11th May 2013, 4:45 PM edit delete reply
That would be a beautiful thing.
Morgenstern 12th May 2013, 5:50 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, the "pages by different artists" thing was sort of what I'd originally planned for the various side projects. Certain characters and events needed a bit of setting up for later, and I was going to have other people do those in separate installments while I worked on the main comic. At certain points, all of the side comics would sort of converge into the "real" comic--if you look at the chapter/page names for Gnarly and Mondo, you'll notice they're numbers. Those correspond to the chapter numbers in "regular" Mushroom Go. So, the order would look like this:

1. Boarding the Chainless
2. Piranha Plant Laboratory
3. At Twisters Borough
4. Bob-Omb Battlefield
4.5 Mushroom Go Mondo
5. Battle at Pokeyhead
5.5 Mushroom Go Gnarly
6. Whatever I decide to call the next chapter.

I was going to have Cammi do Gnarly, and Obfuscobble do Mondo. Cammi's end is working out perfectly; Gnarly's ending will take place after the current chapter, and I should have some money to toss at her for more comic by the time Gnarly's plot points come into play. So... scheduling has had some hick ups, but it's been that way on all ends so nothing is falling out of sync. It'll all make sense at the end and be totally awesome, people are going to poop and yell etc etc

Mondo ... ran into some problems. It was going to be drawn by Scobble and feature a totally different set of things, but I don't know what happened between me and Obfuscobble and here we are. I'd already bought the URL and set up the stupid hint thing in the page names of the main comic, so it was like "whatever I'll just write something." I do want to write more, as there's a few scenes I'd like to depict that would really flesh out Fabes and exactly what the hell is wrong with him. His goomba buddy, too. They're all pretty dysfunctional in a really subtle way. Just like the main characters! I just haven't gotten around to actually putting words there yet.

I was wanting, once Gnarly and Mondo were done, to branch out and do a few other side comics--I've had a few ideas for side stories, i.e. members of the Chainless from other realities teaming up like Marvel's Exiles, or wacky hijinx involving Haze and Charlie. I've also got a butt ton of sketches for characters that I don't really have a place for in the main comic, but that I wouldn't mind dedicating a limited series side comic to.

Currently, though, ain't nobody got time for that. Or money. I know better now than to try and enlist a volunteer artist, but it's not like the one I'd been paying didn't also disappear. Maybe once Mondo and Gnarly are done, and/or I get good footing with regular comic again, I'll take another crack at it.

In the meantime I will (hopefully soon?) be funding Cammi and Gnarly again, and Gnarly is a major part of the main comic. ...You just don't know how yet

Oops I accidentally a rant
Amaare 12th May 2013, 8:55 PM edit delete reply
Ok, well, that gazzumps my idea, but nevermind, it's in a good way!
Cammiluna 12th May 2013, 9:22 PM edit delete reply
I say we run a donation pool to fund my working on Gnarly. If we gather well enough, I can stop taking commissions for a while and that'll spare me some time between job searches to both work on Gnarly and host monthly fanart streams.

(Give me $200 USD to take my mom to Atlantic City as a late mothers day present and Morg will have legal ownership of my soul)
Amaare 12th May 2013, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
I am in full support of this idea and will be donating!

I would love to draw for this comic... like, LOVE to, but I don't think I'd cut it. I can draw, and I know my way around an art program and a tablet. However, I'm no professional, and I'm also just a high school student. I have the free time to do something like that, but even then, I don't think Morg would want me to do something like this for him... I want this comic to continue in any way shape and form. Written, comic, other artists, it's my favourite webcomic, so I don't care. I'd love to draw this comic.

I'd like to speak to morg himself, though...

Art samples, my dear Swizzermon, art samples. You can say anything you want about being good enough or not, but you can bet your ass that Morg, (and his legion of loyal followers, including me) will be wanting to take a look ;)
