Alright. I tried to do an elaborate, chapter-by-chapter type of storytelling to cover every detail and moment of what would have happened. That was taking way too long, so I tried to do it on a character by character basis. That, in turn, ended up getting confusing chronologically because so many characters come and go and are important at different times. So what I'm going to do instead is a quick run through of things as they would have been revealed, mostly glancing over some of the reactionary stuff and how things would have been built up.

I'll add to this list as I think of things, as I'm pretty positive I missed some stuff. I'll also answer any questions as they arrive. Keep in mind that I'm not necessarily revealing things in the order that they'd have been revealed in the comic; I'm mostly ordering this list in a way that I think will be understandable and make sense given that I don't have much in the way of pictures, charts or anything. So some of this stuff would have been big, hugely built up with red herrings and chapters built around them, and some of this stuff I've already hinted at.

• Hyatt, the person that Fabes has been talking to, is a female goomba. She is a former magikoopa's assistant, and a bit of a revolutionary, unhappy with the way that goombas are second-class citizens in the Mushroom Kingdom and essentially slave labor in the Koopa Kingdom. While there are goomba towns every which way, she wants to see a real, true goomba kingdom. To this end, she has taken what she (illegally) studied in the Koopa Kingdom and moved onward, learning various ancient magics and becoming an accomplished sorceress in her own right.

• Hyatt is in love with Fabes; this is mostly why she stays with him. I did a break down of Fabes before, I think, but he's basically too dedicated to catching escaped criminals to realize that Hyatt loves him. Hyatt is kind of a bloodthirsty mama bear when it comes to Fabes, and will straight up murder somebody if she thinks they're going to harm him. She spends most of the series not trusting Fungus because Fungus won't so much as take his mask off, let alone reveal his real name or why he's there.

• Fabes has a sandship, named the Goldenguard. Its logo is a gold chomp, instead of a green-eyed black chomp like the Chainless. It was designed and mostly built by Hyatt, who stumbled onto the blueprints for the sandship while she and Fabes were researching the history of the main cast. The Goldenguard is much larger and better armed than the Chainless, though the Chainless would get restructured, rebuilt and heavily equipped as the series went on--in fact, the first rebuilding of the Chainless would be because the Goldenguard halfway blows it to hell. Hyatt claims she built the Goldenguard to help Fabes, but she partly did it because of the Calling and she doesn't realize it.

• And what is the Calling? Gather 'round, children, and I'll tale you the tale. There is an ancient being of god-like staturing trapped beneath the sands, not unlike an Egyptian deity chained to the concept of the desert. Mario once battled an avatar of this being, and kept it from escaping full-force into our world; if you played Mario 64, you might know them as the hands of Eyerok. Eyerok whispers from the sands in the tongue of magic, trying to seduce sorcerers with its power; it once convinced a man, his name lost to history, to build the original sandship. Unlike most airships, which require a full crew, constant repair from the world's best magikoopas, and a certain level of heavy machinery to keep operational... the Chainless is almost self-preserving, easy to maintain, bigger on the inside (and getting bigger), and only requires a crew of one.

The Chainless is the original sandship, its creator having succumbed to madness; he now haunts the lower-lower decks of the Chainles, and would show up later as an Eerie. The blueprints of the Chainless were scattered by the winds, duplicated, and now numerous people have built their own ships. However, these ships rarely last more than a few months--their captains subject to what is known as the Calling. Eyerok lures these ships to a certain place where the dimensional boundary is weak, a sandship graveyard where he kills the ship's crew, and consumes its star engine for power. Someday, he will gather enough power to enter our world entirely.

The crew of the Chainless don't hear the Calling, since none of them are fully exposed to the madness that is the Chainless's architecture--though, Go and Palma would have a moment where they start to lose it a bit after travelling too deep into the Chainless. Hyatt, on the other hand, nearly uses the Goldenguard to chase the Chainless to Eyerok, not realizing until it's too late that she's been subconsciously played by an ancient god. The whole chapter in the sandship graveyard would have involved both crews teaming up to fight a (larger) avatar of Eyerok. And McCoy getting to punch a god.

• During the fight with Thrive, Thrive managed to get some of himself into Go. Thrive, using his own control of vim, has been filtering his own persona into Go each time Go transforms, slowly corrupting Go's body into becoming a new Thrive. This is why Go has been feeling sick after he de-transforms; as time went on, this illness would get worse. The "red suit Go" that Go sees in his dream is really Thrive, who is merging what he was taught in as a military weapon with Go's own knowledge, soon making the two inseparable. This would eventually lead to Go fighting red-suit Go in the library of his mind, while the rest of the crew fight Go's body in a mutated, half-Thrive-shaped form.

Thrive is actually better at being Go than Go is. Much of Go's "character development" throughout the series--charming Palma, coming up with good ideas, becoming less of a coward--Thrive would claim for his own, trying to convince Go and the crew that Go has only gotten "better" because Thrive was taking over... and that Go never loved Palma at all, it was Thrive influencing Go. Go ends the fight by threatening to burn down his own mental library from the inside, perfectly willing to lobotomize himself if it meant keeping a monster like Thrive away from Palma. Thrive, acknowledging a world without Go or Thrive would, indeed, hurt Palma, lets Go have his body back. Also, this is the meaning behind THRIVEISALIVEONALLTHESIDES(.com); Thrive is alive on all the sides, those being inside and outside.

• Go would still be pretty shaken by the whole ordeal, afraid that his feelings for Palma aren't "real" in the truest sense. He remembers how he felt when Blair broke up with him--like it just came out of nowhere--and doesn't want to do that to Palma... thus, he pushes himself away from her. Palma thinks it's BS and that Thrive was just messing with everyone because... well, he's Thrive, but it's messed up Go too much to be reasoned with.

• This eventually sets up for the revelation that Guy has had a crush on Palma since the day they met. Palma and Guy pseudo-almost-date, mostly as an excuse for Palma teaching Guy how to talk. This in turns sets up for the real reveal: that Guy is a girl.

• Guy's particular clan of Shyguys didn't reproduce sexually. When they took over a village or whatnot, they would indoctrinate the children, using various methods, rites and rituals to turn the kids mentally into Shyguys. Guy is actually a female Toad, and would spend the latter half of the series maskless but in Shyguy-esque attire. This would also end any possible real relationship with Palma, who is straight in this particular timeline (I'll get back to you in a second).

• Boss Birdo's not dead. Her neck was too strong to break, but she did almost suffocate to death before her gang saved the day. She would come back numerous times as a minor villain, and at least one time team up with Martello to fight Fabes. Birdo would also reveal that her boyfriend works for AutoBomb Industries, and that much of her smuggled goods are through them. She would also reveal her giant mecha sized Robirdo. It should be noted that Boss Birdo's boyfriend was going to be a Shyguy; jokes would get made, but I was going to leave it ambiguous as to whether Birdo's boyfriend was, like Guy, actually a girl under there.

• Haze knew that Guy was a girl the whole time; something to the extant of "You mean you couldn't tell? Only a lady can move like she does."

• Hey, remember the Ninji girl? That comic was leading up to the revelation that she and the girl on the far left in this comic were one and the same, that the Ninji was given info about someone that "fought like her" by the Tweeter-looking local cop. After watching McCoy in action, she confirms that yeah, he fights like a Ninji... and tracking his style, finds out he's some ancient enemy of several Ninji clans, and that McCoy is supposed to be dead. Convinced by the head of one clan to bring honor to her family, she observes the great McCoy from the shadows, donning various disguises. If you were around for that one Cammiluna stream where I kept laughing, this is why; people mentioned that Cammi had never drawn the girl in the bunnyhood before. I knew that Cammi had been drawing a whole comic about her. Ninji girl (who I still haven't named, lordy) sets out to capture McCoy alive.

• Ninji quickly discovers that capturing McCoy alive without killing the rest of the crew is pretty much impossible; despite McCoy's protests, the main cast is willing to die to save the old man. In order to help facilitate this process, she joins the crew of the Goldenguard--unmasking and revealing her agenda immediately, and becoming really good friends with Hyatt... and being detested by Fabes, who thinks the nasty assassin ninja is going to end up killing everbody and that's not what Fabes wants. He doesn't quite pick up that Hyatt is more likely to murder someone than the Ninji is. Ninji also forms a solid rivalry / awkward friendship with Fungus; she knows via the Pokeyhead battle that Fungus isn't really trying to help arrest McCoy and Guy, that Fungus is playing some sort of long game to make McCoy and Guy better. She doesn't reveal Fungus's secrets to Fabes, though, and the two maintain a mutual respect for each other. This also established the hierarchy of the Goldenguard:

Fabes is the anti-Martello.
Ninji Girl is the anti-McCoy.
Shrapnel is the anti-Palma.
Fungus is the anti-Guy.
Hyatt is the anti-Go.

• Fabes was right about Martello, for the record. Martello was once a member of the Brigand Bravo, a ship full of cut throat pirates lead by the notorious Daigo Kong. Daigo was a complete monster who would kill for fun, burn down villages and scorch their farms, etc., etc. Martello was still young and in a military mindset; she didn't question orders, she wanted to be leaded, and thus became known as Daigo's Dragon. She did what she was told, and she did it excruciatingly well. She wouldn't snap out of this mindset until a certain raven and his Shyguy sidekick joined the Bravo, with McCoy making Martello realize they'd been attacking Mushroom Kingdom military installations. As it turned out, Daigo was wanting to lure out Mario, so he could be the man (monkey?) that slayed Brother One. Martello, knowing full well how really stupid and crazy that is, teamed up with McCoy, Guy, and a few others aboard the ship to mutiny. Daigo was also a total badass, and ended up putting up a really good fight; the scar on Guy's mask is from Daigo.

• Once Daigo was subdued, Martello called the heads of every state and country offended by the Bravo, and negotiated a deal: she would give them Daigo, if all charges against the rest of his crew were dropped. There was much debate, but eventually, it was concluded that not having Daigo behind bars was too risky to pass up at any cost, and the crew of the Brigand Bravo were all pardoned. Thus, Martello gets away with literal murder, and she and a few certain others head out to new adventure. Most of the Bravo crew scattered, not wanting to be pirates after all they'd seen under Daigo. Fabes, believing that Martello, McCoy and Guy got off easy, has found a country that will put them on trial for their crimes and is out to take them in.

• Martello's dad used to be a pirate. He was born on Tea Cup Island, was a member of the Toge Bros under Captain Syrup, and left the island shortly before Wario tore it a new one. He was granted amnesty from the Koopa Kingdom in exchange for military service, which is why he was such a bad ass soldier--he'd be in combat his whole life before he ever put on a uniform. This is also why he was laughing when he found out his daughter had become a pirate; he himself regretted leaving the pirate life, and was glad his daughter had found the freedom he missed so much. This is also why Martello's bloodline is fire resistant; it's a Toge thing.

• The next time Martello's dad would show up in a comic, he would be out of the wheelchair and up with a cane, and absolutely thrilled to see his daughter. One of the bigger mid-series villains was going to be her dad's partner, brought back wrong as a way-too-sentient drybones... or "Dryhammer," as her dad would call it. Dryhammer had only taken a fireball for Martello's dad because he didn't know his partner was immune to fire; if Martello's dad had been up front about his pirate history, Dryhammer wouldn't be dead. Thus, REVENGE. Not satisfied with just killing the man himself, though (as Martello's dad "is barely living" anyway), Dryhammer wants to rob him of his daughter to try drive the knife in... thus, setting up for the crew vs Dryhammer on Koopa Kingdom soil. It would also be hinted that this one crazy monster Drybones only happened because normally Bowser oversees any acts of military necromancy... and for some reason, Bowser isn't around. This sets up for the big big reveal later in the series...

• The original Thrive is not dead. Martello was scared of hitting Palma with the anti-plant shell, thus aimed off, and some small portion of Thrive escaped. The Koopa military wasn't really going to blow up the lab in the first place; they were coming to get Thrive. Finding him weakened, they put him on ice and have been looking for ways to weaponize him ever since.

In time, Thrive would escape and take over the whole stupid planet, starting with the forests outside of his laboratory prison. Fungus is a member of the Chainless that has traveled through time from the Thrive future to stop all this.

Specifically, Fungus is Guy. He's not psychic at all; he knows the crew and how they fight and how they think and what they'll say and where they'll be because he's been through all this before. Further, he has a diary of notes from the last thirty or so times a Fungus has tried this and failed, each iteration recruiting the current timeline's Guy to become the new Fungus (except one instance where the Ninji Girl became Fungus).

Fungus eventually convinces Fabes that if Martello helps save the world, she'll redeem herself of her sins. This sets up for the Goldenguard and the Chainless teaming up to raid the laboratory where Thrive is being held, and killing him in suspension before he can ever escape. This would be the big arc that most of the series builds toward, with various relationships coming to a head, plot devices getting busted out, Chekhov Guns getting fired, etc., etc. The other big reveal, and the reason none of the world's "heavy hitters" (Mario, Luigi, Bowser) stop Thrive in the other timelines, is that MuGo is taking placing during Mario Galaxy. All the "real Mario characters" that could really have done anything to stop this are off the planet. In the end, the Goldenguard is half-destroyed, Fabes and Hyatt are left stranded, and half the Goldenguard's crew temporarily joining the Chainless. Thrive definitely totally dies for real this time.

• After this, there would be some light, fluffy adventures for character building and fun because shit was going to get real. Once Ninji girl had adamantly joined the Chainless and become friends with everyone and started seeing McCoy as a big brother type, the Ninji clan that wanted McCoy's blood would start to get desperate. After several failed attempts on McCoy's life, they would break Daigo out of prison, and poison him with an ultimatum: if Daigo captures McCoy, they'll give him the antidote. If McCoy dies or is not retrieved, Daigo will die. Daigo has no problem dying of poison for the sake of murdering McCoy.

Thus, the absolute worst beatdown in MuGo history begins. Daigo Kong, a massive and very frightening ape monster, proceeds to stop the Chainless with his bare hands, and fight a collection of Martello, Go, Guy, Palma, McCoy, Shrapnel, the Ninji, and Fungus at the same time. McCoy gets put in a coma, Fungus gets impaled and dies, and in order to save everyone Go absorbs the star that powers the Chainless... becoming powerful enough to beat Daigo, but lacking the control to keep himself in one piece afterward. With the perfect clarity of mind that comes with being star-powered, Go confirms that he does in fact love Palma, and then disappears.

The Chainless, without an engine, is stranded in the middle of the desert. Knowing that the pipes that run the Chainless go to different worlds, Martello puts Palma in charge and heads out, setting up for the latter half of MuGo where the crew consists of Palma, Guy, Shrapnel, and the Ninji. Later, there would be a couple of chapters where a Shroob joins.

At this point I wasn't sure where the series would go, only that it would get progressively bigger in scope. Guy and the Ninji would enter Subcon to save McCoy from his coma, with McCoy then subsequently pursuing Martello. Martello and McCoy, lost in some other distant part of the world, would start a new, separate crew, and everybody would get airships. Squishie would probably come back as a regular character at some point. The last big bad guy would likely be a new, experimental brand of MechaKoopa who--linking to why a Shroob was there at all--would be built using alien parts by the same Koopa sector that tried to weaponize Thrive. This MechaKoopa Mark V or whatever would end up trying to absorb Smithy technology, becoming a new Exor from Mario RPG, and trying to open a rift between worlds to let Smithy's re-activated army through. Palma, a full fledged air pirate captain bad ass by this point, would lead the charge of numerous armies in an all-out war involving vague star power, giant killer robots and pretty much every character that had ever done anything of note in the series.

Go would briefly come back via wish magic, and fight side-by-side with the Neo Chainless. It would be revealed that Go's soul is training amongst the stars--that even Mario had been a weak before he'd reincarnated. When Mario inevitably dies, Go will be reborn to replace him, and the great cycle of there always being a hero will continue. This also fills in some blanks, as I'd be talking throughout the series about what was going to happen if Mario died--since the Mushroom Kingdom has come to rely on the man in red, and no longer had a capable military because they used Mario as a crutch too much.

Because Go still had training to do, and no longer had a physical body, he would return to Star Road when the ExorKoopa was destroyed. The series would end with Mario back on Earth, Martello and McCoy retiring to their own island, Guy and the Shroob maybe hooking up, Shrapnel becoming the new protector of Squishie's Bob-omb town, Hyatt and Fabes finally becoming official, and all sorts of other wacky stuff... including Palma and her new crew hijacking a rocket ship. If Go couldn't stay on earth, dammit, then Palma was going to find Star Road. Commence space pirating!

That's probably hot it was going to end. I had come up with a few different endings over time, and would likely have changed my tune by the time I got around to things. I think I covered most of everything here, at least all the heavy hitting big points; if I remember anything extra, or if somebody reminds me of something, I'll add to this. I'll also answer any questions that anybody has--again, I feel like I probably skipped somewhere.

...I...I...

I CANNOT believe that that this was going to get THAT AWESOME!

Morg, if you have the ability to make stories like that, and have the time and patience to actually completely make them...

Dang it, this just reinforces just how incredible this story you were making IS/WAS.

Thank you so much for making this incredible story and allowing us to read it. I wish it didn't end this way, but that's just how the world is.

Oh, I just noticed something... well, not just noticed, I was running through this story in my mind and realised that this wasn't brought up. I know that it could be considered minor, but it was mentioned, and now I'm confused.

It was mentioned that Palma's straight in this particular timeline. While, yes, the fact that Fungus comes from an alternative timeline is brought up later on, the question of how changing timelines affect the central characters (the members or the Chainless and Goldenguard) isn't really addressed.

We know that, in different timelines, Palma could be Bi, and McCoy could have thought of himself as a hero, and we know that Thrive survives and gains power in every timeline a Fungus left, but we don't know anything else.

We also don't know how timetravel worked in MuGo, so I'm also curious as to how you were going to make sense of that.
Morgenstern 2nd Jan 2014, 4:37 AM edit delete reply

I was actually torn between name dropping E. Gadd for time travel purposes, or having Fungus travel via some prototype version of the Timulator (if for no other reason than to try and cram every possible Mario game into the story somewhere). I had decided that the employed method of time travel would integrate SubCon somehow, though, and that would be why only certain people could jump--Guy has been inducted into Shyguy society via rituals that protect him in the dream world, and the Ninji has had appropriate training for "walking" SubCon.

Fungus wouldn't have said much about timelines outside his own, but the following details would have ended up getting spilled about his particular timeline:

a.) McCoy would have been killed by Hyatt. Further, this would almost happen in the current timeline, but Fungus interrupts this Hyatt before she goes too far. This would be at a point in the plot when Fabes is becoming progressively obsessed with Martello, Hyatt has noticed (from previous encounters) that Martello and McCoy seem to have an almost sort of "thing," and Hyatt wants to punish Martello a little... and things kinda get out of hand.

b.) McCoy is not actually any different at all in Fungus' timeline. Fungus--being Guy and all--just has a very jaded outlook on McCoy, and sees him a brighter light than he really deserves. It doesn't help that McCoy pretty much jerks around everybody, and McCoy's rant about being selfish and not really caring in the Fungus fight isn't entirely accurate, he's just intentionally acting like a jerk to further throw his opponent off. McCoy, in any timeline, does actually see himself as a sort of big brother figure to most of the crew (or in Palma's case, almost a father). You can just pretty much never take anything McCoy says at face value, which would have become a plot point later when the crew of the Chainless start fighting with each other over the Brigand Bravo stuff.

c.) I was going to try and leave Palma's actual sexuality somewhat vague; what's known is that in Fungus' timeline, Palma and Guy/Fungus are lovers, and Go dies sometime early into the Thrive business. In the current timeline Palma does show some interest in Guy, until the de-masking, at which point all interest goes out the window; humorously, she also develops a bit of a crush on Fungus until he's de-masked. I said she's straight, but I guess it's a little complex than that; I wanted there to be some room for debate as to whether Palma was bi but Go or Guy could make her lean, or whether she actually swapped sexualities between timelines (and that subsequently, there's a bigger butterfly effect afoot than Fungus suspects).

d.) While I'm ranting about sexualities, it should be noted that though Fungus identifies as a male, current!Guy would identify as a girl after unmasking. She'd still be tomboyish as all hell, she just enjoyed the opportunity to try something new.

e.) Fungus, being a Toad and all, learned the Old Art from his timeline's Go. Current!Go gets killed before he gets a real chance to finish teaching Current!Guy, thus our Guy never gets to throw fireballs around. I was actually really looking forward to this revelation, as Fungus--having been taught by Go--verbally does the "Focus... focus... focus" thing. Go, having no context for why this was happening, would have appropriately freaked out and thought Fungus was learning the Old Art psychically.

f.) The bright blue eyes are actually a symptom of Old Art usage. Mario and Luigi have blue eyes, Go has blue eyes, Fungus has blue eyes; Guy, sans Old Art, would have likely had brown eyes.

g.) I was going to leave the fate of other!Martello vague, but it was going to be revealed in at least one flashback that the Gearmo she was repairing in her basement was a member of the Chainless in the latter part of Fungus' timeline. Palma would have still become captain of the Chainless, though it would be after Martello was killed, rather than Martello passing the mantle by choice like she did in the current timeline (which also lead to other!Palma having some confidence issues, and leaning on Fungus more for support; our Palma, on the other hand, would become more and more of a complete name taking bad ass as time wore on). The Shroob would have never joined, Shrapnel only gets rebuilt and maintained because Fungus craves a big brother figure, and overall the Chainless crew of Fungus' timeline is substantially smaller / less fun.

h.) Oh, and there would have been at least a little bit of drama involving Fungus' Big Notebook of Future Events. At this point the crew of the Goldenguard have come to the same conclusion that the Chainless have: Fungus must be psychic. He knows things he shouldn't, he has restless, terrible dreams, and keeps a notebook. Thus, when the Ninji girl finds that Fungus has dropped the notebook--and discovers that she's "supposed" to die later--it kind of becomes a big deal. Fungus doesn't reveal everything to her at that point, but does tell her that things can be changed, and that his whole goal is to ensure that nobody has to die. It was also a moment that was going to help cement Ninji and Fungus as being pretty good buds.

One more thing. This comic has touched my heart, and I plan to keep it alive, even if only at a personal level. I'll keep it in the back of my head, maybe do a fanart every now and then. And perhaps years from now, decades even, I'll have the friends and resources to do something with this. If that happens then I'll talk to Morg again, and either it will be something that stays personal between me and a few friends or if he gives it his blessing, perhaps something will be reborn. This is not another, let's save Mushroom Go thing, I realize it's time to let Morg move on with his life. Instead, I'm saying that these ideas and characters are so good, that they me inspire me, directly or indirectly years down the road.

Darius Drake 2nd Jan 2014, 1:16 AM edit delete reply
I'm going to have to disagree with you there. DBZ just kept going because it wasn't ALLOWED to end. MuGo would have gone on going because it had loose plot points to wrap up.

Much like Fabes' belt being a Guilty Gear reference, Future Trunks is pretty much the whole reason I put a jacket on Fungus.

Well, that and to hide the boobs.
Tobias7 2nd Jan 2014, 8:31 AM edit delete reply
I was reading through the old comics, and noticed that in 28 in the 3rd panel, Guy looks a bit like she has boobs, was that just the clothing folds or was it intentional then?

Ah, man, I'm sad to see this coming to an end, but it was obvious it would happen sooner or later. ; o ;
I really enjoyed picking this comic up, even with, admittedly, not knowing much about the Mario 'verse but this take on it was absolutely great! And from what it sounds like from that summary, Morg, is that it would have been even better as it continued.

Sad to see this end, and while I never posted once in the comic's run, I enjoyed watching everything that happened c:

In the end, after having read all of this, I'm filled with a warm glow, while crying the same tears I cried at the end of Inception. The tears that only show up when a story is just THAT GOOD. And this is only from me reading a summary.

Thank you very much Morg, for taking the time to write all of this, you really filled a big hole in my fanboy-heart.

I'm just really really really glad I get to know how everything ends. I'm incredibly impressed with the story you managed to think up.

Question: Did you get the time-travel thing of going back in time over and over again from Mahou Shoujo Madouka Magica? It also has a very similar time-travel thingy, which was also very epic.

I'm glad I kept coming back until the end. Everything was worth it.

I had the idea long, long before I watched Madoka, though I can't deny probably getting the concept of an apocalypse-preventive time jump from some sort of anime. I couldn't tell you if DBZ, Sailor Moon or Haruhi Suzumiya is more at fault here, really.

I'm not sure if the passing the mask idea has been done too heavily before, though--the thought that it's not even the same Fungus, but when he fails he passes his mask and jacket onto THIS timeline's Guy and tells him how to timetravel, and then THAT Guy becomes Fungus until HE fails, finds THAT timeline's Guy etc etc. So I don't feel like a total hack.

QUESTION: Do you have a bit more information on Palma's history? During the Go-Kart battle, Shrapnel kept rambling about her being kidnapped by the Chainless crew, and your summary doesn't touch on this.
Morgenstern 5th Jan 2014, 6:59 PM edit delete reply
Morgenstern
Oh man I totally forgot about that. Prepare yourself for back story!

I've mentioned before that Palma gets her accent from her mom. Her mom doesn't sound like normal Piantas, at least not from Isle Delfino! Because she's done some traveling. To places like Rogueport, for example. Palma's mom kinda maybe briefly ran around with McCoy. They might have dated. McCoy kinda maybe sorta regretted letting her go for a long time, but got over it because that's what McCoy does. That was before she quit the life of danger, settled down and got married in Delfino, though.

Fast forward to shortly after the Brigand Bravo incident! The crew has dwindled. Amongst those that helped stopped Daigo, most have quit pirating, and at least one has died. The ship is in tatters, and the newly minted Captain Martello finds the sinking, shambling remains of the Brigand Bravo drawing near to Isle Delfino. McCoy, knowing an old friend there (Palma's mom), suggests they stop there, maybe hijack a new ship--Delfino has a pretty not-awful navy, after all. While briefly taking a rest at Mccoy's friend's place, McCoy, Guy, and Martello meet her daughter--a young Pianta named Roxette, who has her whole life dreamed of escaping the island and going on crazy adventures like the ones in her books. The opportunity to meet actual, living breathing pirates fresh off some grand mutiny and numerous battles is absolutely magical, and Palma listens to their wild tales while patching up an injured McCoy.

That, by the way, is what catches Martello's attention. Her whole perspective on the sanctity of life and the humanity of her crew has recently been shaken up by having a crew member die (from fairly minor wounds in a post-Daigo battle, for the record), and she is definitely actively looking for someone with medical expertise. McCoy catches up and talks about old times with Palma's mom.

Before things get too comfortable, though, shit gets real! Though the crew were pardoned of their crimes, pretty much everybody still hates them, and word has spread that pirates are on the island. Pianta police surround the Palma household, demanding that the pirates come out and surrender. Martello starts to state a plan, but young Roxie Palma beats her to the punch, turning her attention straight to Guy. "Take me hostage."

Palma wants off the island. She wants to be a pirate. Martello wants someone that can tend to injuries. Roxie's mom is fully aware of what Palma wants, and wants to see her happy--and knows she can trust McCoy, having trusted her own life to McCoy on numerous occasions. McCoy is completely and utterly against this, not wanting to put the girl in danger, but his protests are drowned out by the immediacy of the situation and the orders of his captain. Roxie's dad is away at work and doesn't get a vote.

Thus, Palma is "kidnapped." Palma is used as a "hostage," the crew negotiate for a boat and take their new teenage Pianta with them. Roxie's mom can't very well explain to the cops that she was totally in on it, since aiding and abetting a known criminal (by letting them take your daughter, no less) kinda looks bad. She does tell her husband the whole story at least. He's a little less approving, but he gets the whole "Palma looked so happy on that ship" thing.

Palma in a later chapter would piece together some of the interim stuff, finding out that McCoy almost got steady with her mom. Traditionally, McCoy wanders from one location/group to another, and never dedicates himself to a single cause for very long. This is how he stays hidden from his enemies, this is how he keeps from getting too attached. Though a few people would speculate that McCoy has stayed with the Chainless for so long because of Martello, in reality, it's for Palma--she's like the daughter that he could have had, and he feels responsible for ensuring her safety as a promise to an old friend.

It's because McCoy sticks with the Chainless for so long that he gets discovered and, amongst other things, nearly murdered by ninjas.

Update on my gear- so the guy making the mask was hospitalized and could not ship it. It will be here some time next week. Along with my jacket.

He is fine now. But my mask should have shipped today, my jacket however will not ship until the 14th. Ugh. This pisses me off. Alot.

Eeeeee!! Morg likes my costume!! Which is based on his design!! -faints-

but seriously. Thank you morg for the compliment, I started wearing the hoodie on the outside of the mask, I will sew some brown fabric around to make the strap.

Fuzzy: you would not believe how hard it was to get my hands on a proper red pullover. It's the clubn swoosh pullover hoodie. The mask is from black tooth creations on etsy or ebay, "deluxe fiberglass shyguy mask. ... for 160 bucks. So worth it.

Seems like I've been here quite more since Brawl in The Family announced it was about to end. And now with a couple more days left on its life, I think about how fleeting much of the internet is and yet we only rarely witness age get a hold of such a young industry.

I still come back and check. I imagine I'll be doing it every once in a while until it's finally taken down. I'm not even hopeful, I just like looking at everything.

I had a Mushroom Go dream last night, where Morg made some sort of Mario movie (separate from Mushroom Go), and as a tribute made the first couple minutes the ending of Mushroom Go. I specifically remember seeing Go in that first couple minutes.

Tobias7 22nd Dec 2014, 3:31 PM edit delete reply
Or another game like Collect 20 Dragons. I was getting into flash games the other day and played that again, it's still really fun :) Or maybe just tell us what's going on in your life even.
